On September 23rd and 24th, Technical Sessions will be held at the Pomeroy conference centre with the Paper lineup for the conference  to come.

All technical papers from 48 years of the Symposia are published annually, including NEW papers from 2025 on UBC’s  eCIRCLE , accessed from the TRCR website, for use by reclamation practitioners and academics.

On the evening of September 23rd, the annual awards banquet will be held with reclamation awards handed out for several reclamation categories, the best practical paper from 2025 and annual TRCR student scholarships.

As a reminder, in 2025 the Jake McDonald Annual Mine Reclamation Award was presented to Elk Valley Resources (EVR). This award recognized EVR’s progressive reclamation of the Swift Project at Fording River’s operations. Located near Elkford in southeast BC, the Project set a goal to produce 170 million metric tonnes of steelmaking coal over 25 years.

In addition, Amrize (formerly Lafarge) was awarded the Sand & Gravel Award for its achievement of reclamation through Abbotsford Gravel Sales. The team proposed a collaborative solution with neighbouring landowners and the Agricultural Commission to restore 30 acres of land as well as mining and restoring 85 acres of land.

The TRCR was also pleased to announce that its 2025 Jake McDonald Memorial Scholarship recipient Scholarship recipients were Thompson Rivers University Master of Science students Rabeya Shikdar Orpa and Zhaohui (Sunny) Han who also performed as co-paper facilitators.

An additional annual award was based on a survey of Symposium participants in 2024, with Jacqueline Dube and DJ Formanski of Elk Valley Resources awarded the Tony Milligan Book Award (created in recognition of the contributions Tony Milligan made to mine reclamation). This award was presented based on the quality of their paper, ‘An operational approach to geomorphic design in mine reclamation : A case study from Teck Coal Line Creek Operations’, presented at the 2024 symposium. The Tony Milligan award for best paper in 2025 will be presented at the annual banquet in 2026.

Congratulations to all!

The TRCR Committee will be pleased to see you at the 49th Annual Mine Reclamation Conference in Fort St. John, BC – Welcome all.
